The word ‘discover’ literally means, to uncover.
Feeling unfulfilled in a corporate role, Monique Bayer decided one day to give it up for something she really felt passionate about.
Bordering on obsession, she realised how much she loves Melbourne and is in constant pursuit of the next best coffee or meal.
Monique is inspired by the city, its stories and the people who built it to be what it is today. Without them, we wouldn’t have the culture and passion that Melbourne is known for.
How to bring a walking tour to life, in a way that’s different to the others?
How to connect people to this fine city, in the way that Monique loves?
The purpose of Walk Melbourne Tours is to help people discover Melbourne’s many hidden secrets it’s best known for – coffee, dumplings….rooftop bars…lane-ways…street art…and in doing so come away with a rich understanding and appreciation for the heartbeat of this city.
A lot of what we are proud of in Melbourne is attributed to the hard work of these individuals, each adding their little piece to the bigger woven fabric.
Monique’s even written a book about it called Devouring Melbourne: uncovering a delicious city.
Walking tours are usually just filled with factual stories. You get tired from walking and walking for hours and you somehow get a download of lots of information but come away not much more connected with the place than when you started.
Walk Melbourne Tours ‘shares Melbourne’s stories while we share food.’
So much of what you can experience about the magic of Melbourne is by walking and eating your way through it.
Very cleverly, Monique has woven food experiences into her tours.
For example, you’ll get to hear about a shop, its owner story, the passion behind the product…and then you’ll get to take some time to sit down and actually sample it as well.
The experience of Walk Melbourne Tours really is that – an experience – and a visceral one at that.
They say Australia is the melting pot of different cultures, and Melbourne is a fine example of that.
You literally turn a corner and you’ve gone from say, French macaroon deliciousness to award winning barista-made coffee to dumplings in Chinatown.
And along the way you get to see amazing street art, learn about the architecture of the city, and poke your way through shops and lane-ways.
At every turn is a new discovery.
In literal terms Monique and her company take you on a walking tour of Melbourne.
But what you take away with it is a new-found appreciation for the personalities who made Melbourne, a sensory overload of wonderment and deliciousness.
There’s definitely a feeling of wanting to come back for more.
Look at all those amazing stories and insights Monique now gives because she decided to take a chance on what she really loves to do.

Monique’s take on it:
‘Beth is particularly good at preparing you for the day. You certainly know that she’s clear on what you’d like to achieve, which is not the case with many photographers. Beth photographed me for my professional brand portraits and the tour experiences that Walk Melbourne Tours offer. Beth captures natural, spontaneous moments. For much of the shoot on tour, we forgot she was there which made the subjects much more relaxed.
I was also really impressed at her post production. She enhanced the images post-shoot, without the appearance of them looking ‘Photoshopped’. This was very important to me. I recommend working with Beth because you feel like you are in safe, professional hands.
When the media asks for images to support the story, it’s so great to be able to offer them beautiful professional hero shots of all our tours and a head shot that feels authentic. It’s much better than them diving into their stock photos. And if the reader clicks through to my website they get a real sense of consistency because the same images are on my site. Thanks Beth Jennings Photography.’
