“I always loved the idea of building wealth through property.
When I was 23 I bought my first property and was thrilled to own my own home. That was sold to buy a superior property with a partner and when we separated I had the option to buy him out. A real estate agent ‘friend’ convinced me to sell it instead, which proved to be a mistake. I found out later he was really only after the sales commission and auction fee and not what was best for me.
I was determined to not give up on the property idea and I took advice from a free education course and invested in another property – with a sizable discount – which in the end didn’t turn out to be investment grade at all and I lost $1,000s by missing out on capital growth.
More expensive courses, further investing and more misguided ‘advice’ from selling agents led to some very costly mistakes.
I’ve seen the devastation that has been wreaked on investors just like me who have been led down the garden path. It can ruin people financially.
All of this contributed to my becoming passionate about buyer advocacy in the property industry, and ultimately inspired me to start my business.
What’s clear to me now, that wasn’t throughout those years, was that I didn’t have independent unbiased advice from someone who had my best interests at heart and that knowledge in the end, was power.”
