“I’m Viv, and this is my husband Nick. Years ago we owned a machinery importing business supplying the local electronics industry, which effectively doesn’t exist anymore. We went through what the car industry is experiencing now. We supplied an industry that was no longer government supported.
We needed to evolve. We knew that we liked…
… charting our own course,
… helping other people to grow their business,
… design and visual aesthetics,
… working as a team.
Nick was an engineer many moons ago, and loved manufacturing. I was a speech pathologist and had a real thing about communication. So it was a natural next step to move into printing.
Right from the start, we’ve always focused on helping our customers communicate well in print.
Our challenge (though not unusual, we know!) is maintaining profitability, and to keep developing. We want to niche further. So we’re asking ourselves what would we really like to do?
We love printing books for self-published authors because they get so excited. The books are a really important cog in their business wheel. It’s that excitement factor that makes it so great for us. It’s no coincidence that our business was originally called ExcitePrint.
And we love producing calendars because a large proportion of them are fundraisers. It feels good to be doing something that’s benefiting the community.
The biggest thing we’ve both learnt in this business is that you have to be adaptable. The world never stands still, and you have to always be thinking about what you can do next and develop what you’re offering.
Basically, if you stand still, you’re stuffed!”
