Late last year before Christmas, Elaine decided to book me to photograph her with all her siblings. She said her Mum and Dad had no current pictures that beautifully captured all their children together. Elaine warned me – this was not going to be a walk in the park – no pun intended. It would be a challenge because two of her siblings have disabilities. Actually that didn’t worry me one bit because it’s uniqueness in families that actually makes a photograph sing. We spent an hour together in a local park they all love, and brought the children into the mix too.
I believe that photography is as enduring as love and life itself. At various times in life, it hits home that family is what’s most important. The connections, the smiles, the laughs, the glances – that’s the stuff that we fondly remember. So to have photographs that reflect that, well, that’s gold.
