A graduate from the highly regarded BA (Commercial Art Photography) degree course at RMIT University in 1999, I began by immersing myself in real life – photographing weddings every weekend for four years. These couples had children and I was invited back to capture their next milestone moments. I travelled extensively during this period and have now captured memories in family life in four continents. I asked myself the question if I were to have an exhibition, what would I want to say? From there an earnest and ultimately successful pursuit of ‘my style’ began.
During the noughties I straddled the industry transition to digital photography, encountering many problems around digital photo management, creative expression and presentation solutions. I lead two photo groups in Melbourne and Berlin numbering over 4000 members. I have seen these keen photographers encountering the same issues I experienced years before. I created The Camera Road Map which includes my book ‘Memories at your fingertips – organise your digital photos like a pro’ to help photo enthusiasts set themselves up for a lifetime of photography enjoyment.
My profile is growing as a real life photographer that focuses on creating beautiful images where the use of equipment is simply to support the creative process. I write regularly in my blog, teach workshops, have appeared on radio, at camera clubs and conferences.
Drawing on my professional experience as a photographer and educator, I offer three different workshops which can be tailored to suit the desired learning outcomes of your group at the creative and technical level that is appropriate for them. I can be booked for keynote presentations, conferences, expos, trade shows, clubs, schools and workplaces.
My educational workshops bring to life even the most dry of technical topics with the ultimate aim of seeing participants walk away feeling inspired and equipped with new knowledge that they can apply to their photography practice straight away so they never again miss the moments that matter most to them.
Workshop #1 – From Capture to Create (Creativity; 1 hour) ‘From Capture to Create – how to express family personality and connection in a photo story’ is for participants that own a camera with full manual function (dSLR or mirrorless), who find themselves being asked to photograph a family event, milestone or portrait and don’t know how. We look at a client example as the final slideshow, then raise the hood on the whole shoot and analyse in-camera, editing and post-production decisions to form the whole collection.
This ‘From Capture to Create’ workshop is one of several that can be drawn from any theme within the Your Camera, Your World creative camera ecourse.
Please just ask if you would like to tailor a creativity workshop for your group.
Workshop #2 – Memories at your fingertips (Computer; 1.5hours) ‘Memories at your fingertips – develop and create with your special memories using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom’ draws directly from my book content. With the focus on creativity, we start with how to bring your images to life in the Develop module of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, and move onto creating beautiful slideshows and photo books.
Workshop #3 on Manual Camera Workshop (Camera; 2 hours) ‘on Manual Camera Workshop’ is for new manual camera users (dSLR and mirrorless) that want to learn the language of photography and become orientated with the essential buttons they need on their dSLR camera in manual mode. All principles are underpinned by my ‘Seven Step Shoot Flow’ – a method for getting your camera ready to take pictures in full manual mode. The on Manual Camera Guide is included.
