Remember Doreen from Berlin? She’s back in Melbourne for a few weeks to do some concerts with her quartet – named quartet2100. One viola, one cello and two violins. One chap and three lovely women. They needed a promotional image of the four of them together. Doreen showed me what’s already out there as far as quartet promotional photography is concerned. We had a bit of a laugh at the all round cheesiness and slightly cringeworthy imagery, generally involving hugging instruments/random locations/bad haircuts.
Natasha Conrau, Doreen Ooi, Eleanor Streitfeld and Daniel Lopez, are all in their twenties, playing modern compositions with classical instruments. So we decided to present them as slightly left of centre, but not too crazy. We went for plain white background, their own clothing/natural style and to find a way to present the final image in an visually interesting way. So we thought a composite could work, and to get a little away from the classic look we went for a slightly grungy colour. We spent a couple of hours shooting, then finding the right image and the final look. Here is the result, they are happy and we love that!! (God and how beautiful are they!!??).
Doreen said: ‘The photo looks great, thanks so much. everyone was really pleased with the outcome!’
